n0rma1 pe0p1e (Normal People) is a project I started in 2023. The concept of it can be surmised with the phrase: "extraordinary ordinary people". I saw that phrase at an exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery before the pandemic and it stuck with me. After I discovered my love for photography I realised I could create something that encapsulates "extraordinary ordinary people". After months of thinking and deliberating on what would make sense, I happened to meet Michael while doing deliveries at my day job, and on a whim I asked him if he would be open to having a conversation with me on a walk and letting me take some photos of him. 2 weeks later we met, talked and took some photos and he became the first person to feature in this series. As of today (02/03/2025) I have been lucky to spend time with 13 people who are now featured in the series.
Normal People is a way for me to connect with others, strangers and friends alike, and give them the time, space and appreciation that can easily be lost in the stress and hustle of the modern world. I want to encourage people to talk with a stranger, highlight the rich worlds we are all living simultaneously and to show that we all have something to give to each other even if it's just the kindness in our hearts. None of us are so unique as some people might want you to believe, emotions and experiences transcend an category that we're placed within and with an open-mind, kindness and patience we can all support each other in a myriad of meaningful ways. This project is a way that I hope I can share the love and encourage you to do the same.
